I read in the original O'Day Operating and Rigging Instructions that there was an Optional Mast Raising Device available. Does anyone know what this unit consisted of? Was it helpful in raising and lowering the mast? Also would anyone have the original operating instructions for such a device? I need to lower and raise my OD25's mast on the water. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jack, Go To The Archives

Mast assists, both stock and homebuilt have been extensively discussed and are available in the forum archives. Type in "mast assist", and voila there they are. I also have a copy of the original diagram for the stock O'Day mast assist. It involves some additional equipment to install including redoing the shrouds. I currently am using the A-frame assist, as discussed in the archives. Take a look. Don

4 extra swages to fail

Jack, I just replaced all of my standing rigging and I eliminated the mast raising device on the upper shrouds. Between the two shrouds your have four extra swage fittings, therefore four extra points of possible failure. Also it was a three hand job to adjust the turnbuckle so that the wire attached to the plate didn't unlay. Follow Don's advice about the archives, there were several good sugguestions the last time someone asked this question. Good Luck, PM
