I am looking for a boat in the 35 foot range for coastal and island crusing. I recently looked at a 1985 O'Day 35. I was told by a broker that O'Days in general have some structure deficiencies especially at the hull deck joint. I would appreciate some owner feedback.

Have you had it surveyed?

If you love the boat apart from the defect, I'd have a surveyor look at it for you. You may be able to use the report as a bargaining tool. If the seller won't budge, though, you can walk. There are more boats out there. Without seeing it, its hard to assess from here. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Structure defects?

I have never heard this but am interested to learn more about it...are you sure the dealer wasn't trying to sell you another boat or a new one?? My O'Day 35 is 15 years old and I have not seen any problems at all with the "structure." How are you planning to use it?

I have the original O'Day brochure and owners manual for the 35. Of course it talks about how great they are structurally and how much better than all their competition. I can fax it to you if you provide an e-mail address I will do so.
