Oday 322 Shifter Cable?

I've got to replace the shifter cable in my Oday 322. (Yanmar 2GM 20)
With the brass clevis in hand I can determine the part Edson number (A-H51) and the thread size but doesn't anybody know the right length?

Seems the replacement is do-able from the Edson manual instructions and I can use 3rd party parts like Teleflex Control Cable but I'd really like to have the right cable in hand before starting the project.

Call Edson and ask for Reid Austin.....He accurately determined what cable we needed for our 272 shifter cable....but to make
sure we were covered, he sent three different lengths....and he accurately guessed which length we needed ahead of time and allowed me to return the unused cables for a credit. It was a pretty tough installation process getting the new cable thru the pedestal correctly. He also emailed me some installation information on how best to accomplish the replacement....It took three of us approx. 3 hours to complete the replacement....you will need someone below to start the new cable on it's route to and up thru the pedestal.... (he faxed me the information on routing thru the pedestal sheaves, etc). Good Luck, Pat Coulter

Thanks Pat, Edson told me they can't account for boat models so I bought one that's my best guess. (I'm Irish so that sometimes works). My local hardware store (Jackson's, Kittery ME)has a full selection of cables!
Unfortunately the boat is in Newport RI.
I read the Edson PDF and except for the fuzzy images I think I can handle it. When I'm done I'll post what I've learned here.

Sounds like Reid was not there.....we met him in Newport at last years Boat Show....I'm sorry that did not work out...I'd gladly come up to Newport....I lived there for three years....what a great city.

Ok so here's the follow up. The instructions didn't work for me on pulling the shifter cable.

It seems Edson thinks I can loosen the steering chain/cable and somehow it can be moved far enough away to allow me to lift the shifter and throttle cable thru the opening. It doesn't fit. The problem is that the cables are secured with clamp & bolt, nutted on the outside of the pedestal, once that is free you push it into the pedestal and making slack from below anyway you can you push/pull the clamp/cables up on one side of the steering wheel axial. Then you can remove the problem cable and using the two cables like chopsticks you can maneuver the bolt back into it's tight fitting hole some 5-6 inches below the steering wheel axis.

Unfortunately the clamp and it's bolt do not fit thu the gap even moving the chain. (The sprockets are also in the way)
Fortunately, the broken part of the shifter was the threaded end and with the clamp raised to it's highest point I was able to reconnect the linkage using the somewhat damaged threaded end.
To replace the cable(s) I'll need to pull the wheel, it's axis and the instruments mounted on the pedestal. (Which I might do over the winter)
Clearly this is a design for easy assembly that was never meant to be repaired.

Pat, your description immediately above about the clamp, etc. sounds like what we had to go thru and matches the struggle
Reid told us we would have to go thru..also the fax drawings Reid faxed to us....I thought you would have access to Reid, but
evidently he was out or has a new position within Edson...or is gone.....that would be a big loss for Edson...I lived in Bonniecrest Condo's out on the Ocean Drive when I lived there....my wife went to College there and we met one Halloween
evening.....definitely a haunted, hallowed experience....Patrick

So it's possible to maneuver the clamp by the wheel? Seems with 'clamp bolt' in place there is no way. If I go in again I'll take pictures but I'm pretty sure the wheel and it's axial have to come off, which means the instrument panel has to go too.
Real crappy design..
