Two hatch support arms hang down unconnected to each other . One is connected to the hatch , the other to the hatch opening. Can any one tell me how these arms function? Is there a coupling piece missing ? Boat is 1980. Thanks for any help.

Shouldn't one fit inside the other with a thumb wheel at the overlap for purposes of tightening and setting the amount the hatch opens?

This is what Brian S. is refering to, I would expect this is close to, if not exactly what your 1980 model has? Wish I could have found a pic of the hatch open, but at least this should help. The same basic fitting was used on many of the O'DAYs, so I added a pic from a 22 as well.

Thanks. I will try to take photo and post this weekend. My 'arms ' seem different than those in the pic. Please comment after you see my pics next week. Roger

Yeah, if they both pivot fore/aft, then they need to fit together. See how the aft one is larger diameter than the one on the forward end of hatch? The hatch one fits inside the other one, and there should be a thumb screw to act like a set screw to allow infinite adjustment.

Hi Brian--one does not fit within the other. Same diameter. They butt together with hatch fully opened but there doesn't' seem to be an option for partial opening. Never seen this on all my sailboats. I am puzzled by this set up. Thanks for your input

Sounds like a great time to replace and upgrade that hatch hardware! :D
