Hey All -

Continuing the early season cleaning of the boat.

Anyone have thoughts on the best place to get a leather steering wheel cover? Looked at some on defender and west marine and they are fairly expensive. Is that the standard?

We still have our old one, just really worn down. Is there a way to bring the life back to it?

Thanks!

These things cost money. But if you want to try cleaning and restoring with a leather conditioner first, you might be satisfied, depending upon its current condition. We did that, and it looks good. Also, my wife restitched it since the threads were fraying.

I'll second the boat leather recommendation. I bought a cover form them and they are genuinely nice folks and their stuff is high quality. I was so pleased I gave my father in law a cover from them as well

There is a company you usually see advertised in the back of the sailing mags that dip your wheel and about one inch of the spokes into a liquid that makes a nice coating, but with enough traction to have a secure feel. A friend has it, and he likes it and it looks good.

It's sort of on the idea of liquid rope whipping or liquid plastic you'd dip tool handles in. Not sure what the actual product is, though.
