Does anyone have experience of the pitch setting required for a two bladed MaxProp on a First 456 with a Perkins 4108 and Hurth 2.5 gearbox. Also is reverse pitch diferent from forward. I have the boat and the prop - just fitted an aquadrive and moved the engine slightly forward, but prop is off the shaft and was sent away for refurbishing, now back but UK agent says TOO MANY variables to advise me on even a basic pitch setting. Since the boat has to come out of the water to change pitch I would like to get it right first time if possible - so IF YOU KNOW... what the best setting is please help.....opinions too will be helpful but what I am really seeking is someone who has done this to this boat or a similar sized boat with the same engine, gearbox and prop combination. Also our boat is Ex Yeoman XXIV does anyone have any info on this boat its history, race wins or just ANY info on her. thanks and kindest regards please reply here or to dlm48@aol.com David SY Highland First

Max-Prop Link

I can't answer your question directly, but, perhaps this link will help. The URL for the company that sells Max-Prop in the US is www.pyiinc.com and one can click on their E-mail address and write them direct. What I've found is that even after setting the prop for the setting that should work based on the old prop, one may have to adjust the setting a notch one way or the other. My transom turned grey from the diesel exhaust and after talking to PYI abot it I upped the pitch a notch and now the transom stays reasonably clean, maybe only two waxings a year. Hope this helps. -= John =-
