I own a Hunter 42 (passage). The mast- steaming light (combined with the deck-light) (halfway the mast)is broken and I intended to replace it. When dismantling the old one the 3-wired electrical string slipped inside the mast and disappeared. Not knowing the exact position of the plastic tube for the electrical wiring inside the mast I am at this moment unable to locate, replace and or fix the problem. Is anybody able to give me a hand in solving my problem to retrieve or replace the wiring to the steaming-light.

Dropped A Line?

I guess by now you realize you blew it. Assuming the wiring enters the boat inside the mast you're best waiting till the mast is down. If there's an access plate at the base of the mast you can do the job with the mast up. Open it, pull out the old wire. In either case follow the following procedure. Use an electricians "fish tape" (a small, stiff, springy flat wire) to lead the new wire in. Push it into the wire chase through the hole where the light was. Attach the new wire to the fish tape with electricians vinyl tape. Pull the wire through with the tape. Use self amalgamating tape (rigging tape) to make a bulb on the upper end of the new wire so it can't fall through again.
