Had my first sail on my new 170 the other day. What a fast, agile boat! I am used to a 4800 lb, 26 foot O'Day and this 17' Hunter, at 480 lbs, will definately sharpen my skills. Weight distribution is important as I found out, and there is no steerage with the motor on, the centerboard up and the wind blowing. I had to reef the main (yes, I got the reef points) half way through the sail and I was amazed how far I had gone in such a short period of time. I did find out that I need a motor with a long shaft as my standard shaft began to "suck air" in the chop when I was forward rigging the reef. All in all, the boat is very quick to respond, dry and fast. More tales from the 170 next week!

Thanks Don!

We don't have as much data on the 170 as I'd like here; I hope you'll review the boat and write here often!
