Hi, I am looking for the name and contact info for a good qualified yacht surveyor for a boat that is sitting in ny. I would like him or her to be qualified to also test the engine. Can anyone provide info. Thanks for your help.

Also, I think most surveyors do a general engine test, but not a specific engine wear test. Could be that the surveyor in the area might know of a qualified mechanic to do that.

Many of the surveyors do an oil test here. You can get a kit on line and get results back fairly quickly. Idea is to get a better idea of engine wear.
Oil Tests
1. A SINGLE test will tell you if there is any METAL in your oil, indicating something major is disintegrating inside the guts of your engine. Metal shavings in the oil? Hmm, not so good. Water shows up, too, but if your oil is milky, even YOU can figure that one out.
2. ONLY MULTIPLE oil samples over a period of time without oil changes can give you an idea of the TRENDS in the quality of your oil.
A single oil test just is not the be all-end all.
That's all.

Found a surveyor that does both
Hi, I found a good surveyor that does both. Name is Rob Scanlon. Contact number is 781-595-6225 and email is yacht1ship@aol.com. Does a good job, has a truck rigged out to perform surveys with 2,000 ft of hose to make sure he can get to water. Unfortunately he found problems with the boat so I am back to looking. The boat had serious delamination on the starboard forward quarter of the hull and also on the port side along with delamination of the rudder. So we never bothered to do the engine. Anyone looking at a first 35s5 on Long Island use caution.
