I own a 1987 Hunter Legand 37. I have a problem when motor sailing on a Starboard Tach and the fuel is near one half tank. It is getting air due to the healing of the yacht. The fuel pick up is at the starboard side of the tank allowing the fuel to move away when on a starboard tach. Has anyone solved this problem ? Has anyone moved the fuel pick up to the center? Has anyone tried a floating fuel pick-up that would follow the fuel supply? Please let me know your ideas. Thanks: Richard

Hunter Legend 37 fuel tank
I have a 1987 Hunter Legend 37 and replaced the tank two years ago with a new aluminum made to put fuel pickup dead center and at bottom of tank to avoid any fuel and other substances sitting in tank. Hunter made original pickup high to keep anything on bottom from being sucked up so crud builds up over time. Installed a Racor 500 before the Yanmar fuel filter to keep water and anything else out of engine. No problems since but did have some before refit. In rough seas the old smaller Racor filter would clog and require ever more frequent filter changes.

I had the tank cleaned and the Racor 500 filters changed a lot. When the boat is healing slightly with the fuel at one half, I have had the engine stop for a lack of fuel more than once. It is perty common here to motorsail when you are out in the Gulf and trying to make it to Key West after 30 hours of sailing. I will try to move the pick up to the center.
