Next week, my wife and I are planning to take our 26M to Lake Tahoe. As we have essentially never sailed before and certainly not on Lake Tahoe, any helpful tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Be very careful in the afternoon on the west shores of Lake Tahoe. You can get gusts of 20+ knots coming out of the canyons. There can be almost no winds at all and then you will get these gusts. You will also need an inspection before you can launch. Be sure to bring your wallet.
Sailing the West shore of Lake Tahoe is wonderful. I have been sailing these waters for 25* years. I suggest staying between Tahoe City & Emerald Bay. Consistent Sw flow starts about June 1st and runs through September when's winds get squirely. Start you cruising at 4:00pm until sunset when winds die and the Lake gets glassy.you will have consistent breeze between 10-18knots, with flat water on the West side of the Lake. Of course if there are thunderstorms in the area (usually late in the day in the SW) get off the Lake and go enjoy a beer and the scenery good luck
