Hello To All, After many phone calls and e-mails to individuals, the plans for the Labor Day Sail-Fest are finally coming together. While our original plans had been to center the gathering in the Ft. Walton Beach/Destin area, this did not work out. Every marina in the area, especially on a holiday, was short on parking, slips, did not have a ramp, or a combination of all three. What was finally decided upon was to base the group out of Pensacola Shipyard Marina Complex, in the Bayou Chinco area. I spoke with the marina manager and they will offer us use of the launch ramp, secure parking for the vehicles, overnight dockage on Friday night, and use of the pump-out station for the cost of $25. Here is a tentative sail plan for the weekend: Friday, August 31 Rig and Launch / Pensacola Shipyard Marina Complex Saturday, September 1 Sail to Navarre Bridge and anchor at Juana’s Pagoda http://www.eranavarrebeach.com/party.html Sunday, September 2 Sail to Quietwater Beach Boardwalk and anchor in harbor Monday, September 3 Return to PSMC and unrig / head home The sailing distances are as follows: Pensacola Marina to Navarre 27 miles Navarre to Quietwater Beach 18 miles Quietwater to Pensacola Marina 9 miles If some of the smaller boats do not wish to make to long journey from Pensacola Marina to Navarre, there is a ramp at the Navarre Bridge that you could put in and sail up to meet the rest of the group coming down the ICW. Then all sail back to Navarre Bridge and anchor at Juana’s Pagoda for out Saturday night get together. On Sunday, there is a nice easy sail to the Quietwater Beach Boardwalk; this is where all the Labor Day Festivities will be going on. Jubilees will be having a big party that day and they are located right on the beach. You are able to anchor out, walk ashore, and walk into Jubilee’s, all of this and their Bushwhackers are incredible. There is also trolley service all along the area, free of charge, so transportation is not a problem. Here is a link to the Quietwater Beach Boardwalk map: http://www.visitpensacolabeach.com/islemap.htm Then on Monday, head back across the bay to the Bayou Chinco area and put your boats back on the trailers. As before, this is not a sectioned event, each skipper is fully responsible for his or her vessel, the itinerary is only a suggestion, and anyone attending may go to any destination they wish. There, now that the legal disclosures have been taken care of, I am looking forward to seeing many of you down there, several for the second time. If you have any questions / suggestions, wish to be placed on the mailing list, feel free to e-mail me. Here is a link to Tom Mooney's web page which covers a lot of the area that we will be sailing in. http://netzero.homestead.com/tompensacola/index.html Ben Allen Montgomery, AL "Latte Dah" O'Day 26 benallen1@mindspring.com
