keel stepped mast

Does anyone know about the keep stepped mast on a 1975 H30. Is there anything I should be looking for? any known problems? Thanks allBarry

Huh?

My 81 H30 (same hull and basic design) has a deck stepped mast. Before I bought her, I looked at a bunch of H30s and never saw one with a keel stepped mast. Incidentally, if you mean the steel base for the compression post that lives in the bilge, this is a weak point in the design; they can rust out. Its a bit of a project to replace it. With the owner's permission, tap on it with a light hammer to see if its solid.

it is keel stepped

the mast goes through the deck to the keel on my 1975 H30. I just put a mast boot on it. the only thing I see is a little pitting on hte mast at its base . Barry

Mine is in good condition.

We also have a 1975 Hunter 30 with a keel stepped mast. It sure beats the heck out of a carbon steel compression post. Ours is in excellent condition with no noticeable pitting at the base. We have experienced no leaking around the boot. Have had the boat 3 years and have not had any reason to pull the mast.
