Hello,
This is my first foray into a news group. I am interested in Albin boats.
I realize this is a Vega group, but I have a Ballard ( this is Albins 30'
model). I was hoping that some of the information you may have gathered
over the years would translate to my boat. Specifically, polar curves and or
general sailing and maintenance tips. Also if any one knows of an English
language site that might have more information on the Ballard, that would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

I also have an Albin Ballad - nice to meet another Balladier. There is a
Swedish Ballad Owners association website at
Nätcasino för kräsna - Konsumentråd om svenska casinon | Passagen. Most of the content is in Swedish,
but there are some English language sections. There is a UK Ballad owners
association, based in the Plymouth area. If you are interested, I can dig out
a contact name.

BTW there is no "r" in Ballad.

Tim,
Thanks for the spelling correction, no one has challenged me on it before
because I haven't met anyone who knew about the boat.

I have been to that one site in Sweden and attempted to find the e-mail
return in hopes someone would respond, but as of yet I have not been able to
find the right address. If you had a contact of someone in the other club or
even just a web address that would be great.

Where do you sail? Have you had any major issues with the boat?

I sail in Narragansett Bay at the MA / RI border about 12 miles North of
Newport. I recently joined a local racing association, hence the questions.

Thanks for the info
Rich

Hi Rich,
If you go to the Swedish site, and click on "Gastbok", you will find
a discussion forum. Again its 90% in Swedish, but you will find some
postings in English - if you post in English, you will get responses
in English. They also publish a book of practical tips - but only in
Swedish. If you know a translator, I've seen a number of folk express
an interest in an English language version - might be possible to set
up some sort of a deal.

As far as I'm aware, the UK owner's association doesn't have a web
site. There are Dutch and Danish association web sites (links from
the Swedish site I think), but no English language content. As for me, I sail Ballad no. 105 - "Shanty" around the North of
Scotland. I'm based at Fortrose on the East coast, but try to get
over to the West coast as often as possible. I've had Shanty for two
years now, but last season was a very short one, as I had her ashore
drying out the bottom & applying epoxy. So, I'm learning what makes a
Ballad tick. I'm coming to the conclusion that, whilst she is very
forgiving in many ways, good sail trim is vital to getting the best
out of her.

Tim
