Red Dog our Hunter 28.5 pulled off a second in the 82nd running of the Toledo Mills Race. There were 2 other Hunter's in the Regatta a backstay less Hunter and a 80's Hunter 40. The 40 took 1st in class and 1st over all in the JAM fleet. We were 10th over all in a fleet of 40. The backstay less Hunter a 36 or somthing like that all so placed but I do not remember where nor do I remember where they ended up over all. We were the only Hunter's racing and it was good to see them all do well. Cliff H 28.5 Red Dog

Cliff, how about the 44?

I was over at the Bay this weekend and saw a Hunter 44 rafted out in the public marina with all the race boats. Do you know if he raced at all? I was coming out of Toledo Beach Friday evening and sailed right through the middle of the race as you were coming out the channel from Toledo. When I first saw all the boats, I wondered how I was going to work my way through, but I must have timed it perfectly as I never had to touch the autohelm. The weather was excellent for my sail, I assume you had the same! Congratulations on the second place finish! Brian

It might have been the 44

I do remember seeing a 44 getting ready to race at the Toldeo Yacht Club. We sailed up to the starting line from our dock. Too much of a hassle to get crew to the boat and back to ther car's. I don't remember where they placed but I know the were in the top 3 of ther fleet. Cliff

Might have been a slug

I don't remember where it finished and the results do not have the boat type. Cliff

44 a slug

Hunter 44 "Maelstrom" in Jam A finished 9th in class 35 in fleet, Skipper said the boat is not a slug, it is his racing skills

I don't think it's set up for racing

It looks like he has the stock sails on that boat, including the standard roller furling main.

No Disrespect

To the guy on the 44, maybe next year he will be set up for racing and do better. Cliff

Bad News Cliff

Boy this is a first.... me the subject of discussion... Sorry folks but I am a Cruiser at heart and only go to the Mills Race to enjoy a few days and a night (I love night sailing) sailing with friends. So I will not be setting up the boat for racing, no new fancy sails, no dumping out my water tanks and no dumping my beer drinking friends for hyper serious racing type sailors... but I did notice they have a cruising class so I may join it next year instead of sailing JAM. See you at the Mills Next Year. I'll be the guy behind you at the first turn.

Kevin, I love the sound of your spirit on doing the Mill's Race. We love doing it and have a great time. Maybe we will see you at the Bay. Cliff

How can I get some info on that race?

It looked like you guys were having a blast after the race. If they have a cruiser class, maybe I can get my 44 in and give Kevin some competition. I did notice that Kevin was one of the few boats with his A/C turned on on that very warm Saturday. I bet people weren't laughing at him then! Brian

Turning on the AC

If I knew he had the AC on I would have been banging on the boat looking for a cool place to sleep. I am sure no body was laughing Sat night when they were trying to sleep. It was warm. The Mill's Race is always the 1st weekend or 2 in June and you can get the info on it at the Toledo Yacht CLub web site. Cliff

Yes we enjoyed the AC

The boated rafted next to us at the TYC was a little bummed they had to listen to our constant stream of water while they tried to sleep in the heat Thursday night. Brian race info generally comes out about one month before the race. As Cliff said you can find it at the Toledo Yacht Club web site see link below. We will have to compare notes on new boat punch out problems / items. You can find my e-mail in the owners section. Over all I don't have any major problems at this point other than I'm still getting use to the roller furling main. As for next years Mills race you'll have a hard time competing with my cruising attitude. We crossed the start line four years ago(on my 40, the one that this year won first in class & first in fleet)grilling burgers on the back rail. This year we thought about starting while pulling a tuber but we figured the 100 foot tube line might get in the way of the other racers. I'm wondering if a tuber on the back would work in the cruising class. See you on the lake.
