hello racers! my husband and i have a hunter legend 40 1988. deep draft. we bought a #1 genoa (155) used, its a spectra ripstop laminate. 800 bucks! 52/49/28. we are just beginning to race, generally cruising class. last weekend we took second place one minute behind a faster boat with new sails and lots of experience. of course only 6 in our class but who is counting? it was a primarily downwind race, which is nasty with those hunter swept back spreaders. my husband worked his butt off. lots of adjustments. some great friends also gave us an assm spinnaker but we DONT KNOW HOW TO USE IT yet. next race will be 100 miles. this race was 20 miles. we won cruising class two years ago in the ensenada race; thru a friggin fluke. had the 110 then and knew nothing. just didnt start the engine like all others did. anyone else racing a 40? we hit 8.5 knots sailing with the spinnaker and over 8 with new sail, thats with about 15 knots of wind. we can go wind speed up to 5 knots. cool, huh? who would have thunk it? Janet and Ken silver (crazy woman racer and tolerant clever husband)

Good For You!!! I've raced on an H40 many times. It is a very fast boat. Much more competative than one would expect. We won the Naples to Key West Race a couple years ago on an H40. Beat the pants off some serious competition. Wait till you get that boat screaming 12 to 14kts....it's a hellofaride. Try out that asym, you'll be amazed how easy it really is.
