All:I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of confusion over the difference between Hull & Equipment Coverage, and Personal Effects Coverage. The Hull Coverage in a proper marine policy covers anything that's aboard for the use, maintenance or operation of the vessel. That means that anything that's permanently attached to the boat, or permanently wired into the boat, or aboard specifically for use on the boat is covered under that section of the policy. That includes binoculars, tools, any marine VHF radio, and any electronics permanently installed.Personal Effects are those items which are strictly personal such as clothing, cameras, etc. It's important to remember that one of the insurance problems for liveaboards is that those personal effects are ONLY covered while aboard the boat. While that may be addressed by a policy specifically written for them, those policies tend to be rather pricey.Al GoldenIMIS
