I have a 1984 Hunter 34, and would like to know how to increase the 30 amp into 50 amp?

Some of the new Hunters have two thirty amp dock lines, as opposed to a single fifty. This might be an option to look at also.

Unclear question

I was at a dock once which only had 50 amp service and I needed to adapt it to my 30 amp boat and cable. There are adapters for this purpose. They are hard to find and fairly expensive. There are two kinds of 50 amp service - 125 volt and 125/250 volt. The connectors are different and the power available is as well. If you are asking how to put a 50 amp cable and connector on your boat, find someone locally who knows how to do that. It will be really expensive for not much benefit. I cannot see much reason unless you are running a welder.

50 amp?

Man, what are you doing on that 34'? I can't think of any usual thing that will require a 50 amp service. And, most marinas have 30 amp service. It is most common. Like the others have already said, you won't gain much. Now, I know many big power boats have 50 amps, or sometimes 2 of them. But they usually light up the whole boat, inside and out, with all the electronics going. As for me, unless I am cooking, I have just one lantern turned on, the kind that uses lamp oil and wick, and my anchor light. Sweet.

Another answer

I re-thought about your original question. Are you asking how to connect your 30 amp shore power cable to the dock's 50 amp service? You will need a adapter. West Marine carries one. It has a 50amp male plug on one end, and 30 amp female plug on the other end. They are not cheap. I think they run about $100 to $150.
