Blower no longer functioning on our 1995 36' Catalina mkll. Before I buy and try to install a new blower, is there any way I can track down the problem and attempt to fix it myself?

Follow the wires, check connections and the switch, check for a blown fuse that may be local to the blower. If you have a diesel engine, you really don't need the blower. I rarely, if ever, use ours.
I have a Catalina 30 and I trust Stu's advice about not needing it as I do have a diesel; however, I like to run mine when I return to dock to reduce the engine heat from the cabin. It is a little bit of noise but it seams to help eliminate heat and odor.
I've replaced several of the 3" inline blowers used in Catalinas, they don't usually last very long, are pretty cheap and easy to replace. I've got to replace one on my current boat, still works but it's so noisy (bearings ready to go no doubt) it's louder then the engine. They sell them here BTW

Since they get used so rarely sometime the bearings get a bit sticky. Pull the hose off and with the switch off give the blades spin. If they spin freely it's not the problem, if they were stuck, once free try the switch. If still nothing, follow Stu's advice.
Stick a pin in each of the two wires just before they enter the blower. Connect a voltmeter to the pins and see if you get 12V when the switch is turned on. If not, you have a wiring problem. If so, you have a bad motor.Ed Cortese said:
