Gettting close to putting a bid in on a 310. 2002 with original standing rigging. Saw manual says 5 years.

Was hoping for some feedback on how long others have had their standing rigging?

Anyone have an estimate on how much to replace this on a 310?

Thanks,
Jim

I have 2003 with original rigging. I really depends on how/where you will use the boat, but 5 years is pretty conservative to keep the OEM out of trouble. Some surveyors will go up the stick to inspect, but many won't - if you are concerned about the condition of the rigging shop around. Some guidance here:

I also have a 2003 with original rigging. I try to get aloft every season to inspect everything, and make it a point to use the binocs frequently from the dock. So far, so good.

I have a 2001 that is original and had everything down for inspection this winter. Found nothing to show signs of wear or failing, we even did dye tests on a couple fittings for signs of stress cracking. Looks good, no need to repair. (I am a fresh water sailor, and PO used the boat very little)

It also largely depends on the requirements of your insurance company. Unless they agree on a timeframe or a satisfactory surveyor’s report, they could possibly use Catalina’s specification/recommendation as an ‘out’ in the event of rigging failure.

Good point. Wonder if yearly close-up photos of the rigging would satisfy the insurance companies in a case like that?

I've heard 10 years, so on a 2002 it warrents at least a very close inspection.

My rigging was 30+ years, I'm sure everyone agress that's too long...15 tops?

Fresh water or salt water?

Talked to a guy selling & rigging boats for 40 years. Said he never saw a freshwater rig fail from corrosion, even 40 years old. Salt, that's another story. Year round heavy use in florida, or lightly used a few months in Maine?
