How do you seal your hatch?

My Mac 26S has a couple inch gap between the pop-top and the companionway cover (is there a technical term for that). The original owner had a piece of foam (about 3" x 3" x 30") jammed into the gap. Is there a better way to seal this gap?

Our D doesn't have that much gap, so I'm not sure if yours is a changed hatch or what. Actually have to lift the pop top a little to get it to clear the hatch. I didn't like the rain blowing in the gap anyway, so we had a Sunbrella cover made and like it a lot. The only problem is that it's dark and causes the temperature in the cabin to soar on a sunny day. I'd do white if I had it to do over again...

Wow, I am in the process of making the same cover. I started from the back of the boat, and created a cockpit cover that comes almost to the point that that cover ends.

As far as cover colors go- the further south one travels, the greater the incidence of boat covers in general being white. Sunbrella blue is very popular, but it gets quite hot.

I wish I had brought the cover down low enough to cover the speed meter and the compass. I've had to replace the face of the speed meter, and the compass is crazed from the sun (both of them had the covers lost over time by the PO, I assume). Live and learn, I guess...

If you mean the gap up by the hasp, I just use a piece of round pipe insulation to stuff in there when it is parked. I can put in in from either side (in or out).

Not in, in the pic.

A sunbrella cover seems like a good idea. Do those snap things just screw into the fiber glass, or do they have nuts on the back side?

I guess I hadn't thought that much about that gap. The venting seems to offset the small amount of rain that comes in. Maybe in a wetter, cooler climate I might have a different view.

They are screwed into the fiberglass. I've never had one come loose, so I guess they must be good!
