headsail opinions

Took the boat out on the lake before Hurricane Ida came about (light winds) and noticed it was about time the old girl had a sail change (original stuff). I have removed the staysail boom to make room for the Admiral's suntanning chair and was thinking 110% Genoa instead of the 90% jib that it came with. Not that much into speed at my age, just steady. Will also be replacing the mainsaill and WOW....sticker shock!
Like buying a car. Any thoughts on slightly used sails and where to get them would be greatly appreciated.

When I wanted to match my North main with a North yankee I also was shocked. So I went offshore with a Lee sail at half the price. Nine years later it is like new. But there are several good sources. I bought my drifter from Sail Warehouse. Here are some links:

Take a look at Atlantic Sailtraders in Sarasota FL. They have used sails of good quality and give good advice. They cut a new main for my H33 at a very reasonable price.

Thanks Tim. Some of the best prices I've seen so far for new stuff. Used isn't bad either.

One of the problems finding used sails for the 37C is that enormous J measurement. The main is not as big of a problem.

I am going all new with Lee. Will sell off the old stuff later. Prices are more reasonable than I had expected. Around $5 000 (Cdn) all in.

I am new in this game, but there is a place in Houston called Boaters Resale, in Kemah; speak to Paul, who owns it, and he will give you a very good price
I bought a main sail for my H33, 1982, and paid about $140.00
Since I am not competing in the Cape to Rio race, it will do very nicely indeed

I am going with a yankee cut jib which is similar to the original. I can squeeze about an extra foot on the luff and am increasing the leech and foot both by three feet. This should give a bit more overlap yet still be a nice, small, manageable sail and shouldn't blanket the staysail.

FYI - original (when I acquired the boat) luff - 43', foot - 16'10", leech - 35'
- new ............................................43'8"..........20'................38'

The new staysail will also be slightly larger and I am still talking with the sailmaker re the practicality of full-battened and roachy.

original luff 30'3" foot 9'4" leech 28'6"
proposed ..33'5".........9"10"..............30'6"

Please, please, please - all you experienced pundits - if I have made some gross error here, let me know before I finalize the order.

Otherwise, I will let you know how everything worked out next spring.
