GPS swingarm mount

I bought a small GPS/finder unit for my 240. I was feeling cheap so I made this wooden swingarm. It mounts inside the cabin and swings out to view from the cockpit. A wooden dowel will hold it at either end of the swing. It should hold up as long as nobody falls into it when it's in the outward position.

Finally getting some decent weather in NJ.

That looks fantastic...you got some fine carpentry skills. Would love to see what it looks like when it is mounted. Right now I'm just using an android tablet for a GPS but would like to mount something permanent.

Greg, I attached a few photos. The boat is still covered as a result the pics came out dark.

Thanks Ward, rough winter this year in NJ. Hopefully we will have a nice calm summer to make up for it.

Thanks for photos. I’ve seen other versions of swing brackets for mounting a GPS, but I think you made the best one yet. Looks both sturdy and very attractive in varnished wood.

I think I might put that on my to-do list (although I doubt it will have the same level of finish). Quick questions—looks like you have a dowel to lock it in either position, right? Also is the center hinge on a wooden dowel rod as well?

Yes the pivot point is on a 5/16 dowel. I use a 1/4 inch dowel to lock it in place.

Thanks for the compliments.

I'm nearly done with my shameless copy of your original :) One more question...did you stain the wood to match the interior teak? I made mine out of oak and it's a little light for the teak interior.

I tried to match it. I used Minwax Cherry 235. It's close but not a perfect match. I used pine so it would probably be lighter on Oak, maybe 2 coats.

I picked up the stain at Ace Hardware. They were willing to open various colors and dab some on a stirring stick (pine). You may want to take a piece of oak to your local hardware store. Maybe they will do the same. Good chance you will end up with the same stain I used.

Great. Thanks again Mark. Haven't gotten to the hardware store yet but will check it out and see how it looks on oak.
