At a recent skippers meeting before last Saturday's race, a bit "todo" was made about the time check. Seems several skippers missed it and wanted a recheck. They tried to do so but the second check was not in sync with the first check. Somebody spoke up and said "Why not use the GPS time. It is as accurate as can be and all the skippers have a GPS receiver." My question to the net is: "Is any racing organizations using the GPS time for their race starts, and not giving time checks at the skippers meetings ???"

Galveston Bay Area Race Committees use GPS time

Sometimes there is a time check at the skipper's meeting, but "GPS time" (corrected for the local time zone) is the standard for the race.

GPS time

In general, we use GPS time, but it is at the discretion of the Race Committee. I have not seen 'time check' at a skipper meeting for quite some time (years). It is more important that once the first ten minute gun goes off, that they are consistent with the time/sequence.
