A couple of ways...

There are a couple ways to handle this. I was going to reference another post where this was discussed but I couldn't find it. :( Topping Lift. This is a cable connected to the top of the mast that is clipped to the end of the boom to keep it up when the sail is down. Pigtail. This is a short piece of cable attached to the backstay which does the same thing as the topping lift but without having the second cable. This is what I have (and it works fine). Boom kicker. This is a spring loaded device that is placed between the mast and the boom which uses spring action to keep the boom up when not supported by the sail. I've never used one but I've heard they work ok. Hope this helps!! Keith K. S/V Vesta #6348

Boom Stop

What you need is a boom stop. it is a sail slug that sits in the track and then is locked down with a stainless set screw. Catalina direct sell them for 7.00 However i am not pleased with them now >( see my post about the service.) Good luck it is a simple fix and you can set the boom where you want it and leave it there.

Wooden Dowel

Go to Home Depot and get a wooden dowel to drop into the slot of your mast. Cut it to the length you want so that the goose neck never goes lower than you want it to. Remove the goose neck, drop in the dowel, replace the goose neck. To keep the dowel from coming out when you trailer, use a small stainless screw and washer to clamp the dowel to the mast. This costs about $5.00
