I pulled the fuel tank from my Hunter 33 and found the sludge wasn't too bad. Spray washing and quick swish of muriatic acid got it pretty clean. Great! Oh? Whats this? Hmmm ... a leak from the corner... I used this stuff http://aluminumrepair.com/land/index.asp?src=msn and the repair looks pretty good. Anyone else used this or have any experience with it? Now that I have the tank out I'd rather put in a new one now if I'm going to end up there shortly anyway.

I saw them demonstrated at the Dana Harbor boat show and it is pretty impressive stuff. I was going to use it to repair the gas tank in the C-27 but opted for a new tank. After pumping out 10 gallons of gas from the bilge I decided it wasn't worth the risk.

mystery117,

Some time back I replaced my fuel tank (NOT a C-27). When I removed it, it was WAY past fixing. But, that I did may be of interest. I coated the new tank with a type of flexible fiberglass. SOOOoooo I now have an aluminum lined fiberglass fuel tank. Not sure if you can fit the extra space, but I think I will never have to fix it again. :D

You can see my details on our web page at;

You'll never know until another event happens. Depends how well you want to sleep. I have mine pulled and I'm just going to replace it along with the fill/vent hoses as they're permeated.
