Does anyone know how to get the little round cap (with the screw in the center) off the motor mounted fuel pump on an MD11C? The point is to remove and clean a screen that is under the cap. Access is VERY limited and there doesn't seem to be a way to lift the recessed cap off of the pump. This is the tiny pump that has the spring-loaded lever underneath for bleeding the air out of the system. Regards, Phil Ackerman

The cap comes off with difficulty but it does come off - after removing the screw, you could try inserting a allen wrench end to pull it up. Penetrating oil can help. There is a paper gasket under the edge of the cap that may be damaged - there are overhaul kits with replacement gaskets. Make sure the cap is sealed when reinstalled - you can get a slow air leak if not. I had to remove my pump and attempted to repair it. The pump was very difficult to get to but after doing it the first time, you will find that it is manageable - a mirror on an extension can help. If your pump is original, you may consider replacing it - they are known break down - they are also expensive to replace.
