Hey all,

I have a catalina 27 1987 with a small Facet brand diesel fuel lift pump. The filter designed to go into this pump is a small red plastic cup with a thin mesh filter element around the cup.

My question is ... which way is the filter inserted?!?!?!
Does the larger open end go downwards, flush against the rubber gasket in the bottom cap, or does the smaller opening positioned against the gasket?

Thanks all for your help.

Indirect answer to your question:

The pump should be downstream of the primary filter, to avoid gumming up the pump filter. Most if not all Catalinas were not plumbed that way.

The bottom of the pump as you know is easily removable.

Since the way the pump works is so simple, put it in one way, if it doesn't work, flip it over.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't matter.

Stu, that was too quick! Don't you have a job to go to??? :)

I played with it for about 15 mins, and it does seem like it could go either way.
The thing is, is that after a couple of months of running, it was remarkably clean when I went to replace it before winterizing this season. It made me wonder if i had upside down or not.

Got an email reply from Torrenson marine...
The "narrow" end goes down flush with the rubber O-ring.
