I have noticed what appears to be a brown water stain running down the leading edge of my rudder and suspect it may be in the early stages of de-laminating. The pre-purchase survey recorded elevated moisture readings on one side of the rudder. I intend to split the rudder, dry it, remove the foam and rebuild using micro-balloons and resin during this winter’s lay-up.
However, I haven’t been able to locate any instructions on how to remove the rudder from the boat (tiller steered 1985 Beneteau First 325). The tiller is bolted to a bronze block that is fitted to the shaft by two relatively small lock nuts. Can it be as simple as undoing the lock nuts, or is there likely to be something more sophisticated involved?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
