My Alder-Barbour fan on the compressor unit in my 1988 Catalina is loud, I think the bearings in the fan are wearing out. I think I can replace the fan and either connect the new wires or splice them, the fan appears to be 12v and about 4 5/8" square. Is there a certain amount of CFM the fan must move? Any suggestions or help for replacing is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve M.

Do you know...

the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man...?" Now that I've put that stupid song in your head...yes, those fans (12 vlt. muffin fans)are relatively easy to replace and can be bought fairly cheaply on the internet. Do some research on the internet as to specs. for the Adler Barbour unit and look on Ebay or other places for replacements. Don't oversize it too much or it will be louder than the defective one. I'll check my records and try to post some more info later. Ok, look at link and the #'s are either 60, 80, or 95 cfm fans. 60, I believe was standard and you move up if you are in much more hot/humid climate. Increase in cfm is an increase in noise. You can do lots better than $20.
