Good Day All,
I took ownership of a 1987 S2 35C in May of '11. The boat name is GRACE it was owned by Ben Kropf..he has passed away and I have purchased it from his Daughter. I am in the process of doing some projects that need attention. The first project I tackled was replacing the mast step as the survey found a pretty rotted step. I am trying to document my experiences on you tube..as many do..but just in case someone is interested here is the link...I hope..I'm new to this sort of thing so I hope this works...

Nice boat and nice job. I have to replace the step under my compression post and am not looking forward to it.

I was pretty happy with the way things went. I have not done that job in particular before. I used mahogany and then I wrapped it in fiberglass before installing it, the old one seemed to have a shell glassed around it AFTER being placed..I feel that contributed to it sucking up water..I don't know if it was original or not. In my case the boat was being trucked down from Superior to Manitowoc so the rig was down and I figured I would takle it right away and I'm glad I did. The aft section was not holding at all.

A big problem is that often the show drain just dumps into the bilge or you get a plumbing leak. Water does the rest. I really should drop my rig and get to work...but there is SO much work associated with doing so and doing it right. Fix the compression post blocking...rewire the mast...paint the mast...and maybe even fix the deck core under the mast! Whew...I get tired just thinking about it!

Sounds like a project Bob but a good one. The season is just about in for me so the major projects will start again.
