Looking at this area for storing engine spare parts or start battery location.

I was envying the way Paul's Cat 31 engine compartment housing is handled, much like the fully removeable engine covers in older vans and wondering if anyone reconstructed the compartment in the Hunter. Mine only have access to the front of the engine and a very inconvenient side door for the dipstick.

Paul: Interesting concept. What is under there, a continuation of the bilge?

Paul,
It's hard to tell from the pic, but the fuel return line on the aft injector looks like its been chafing on the coolant hose!

I've been thinking about that too but was worried about heat issues.

My current thought is to build a bulkhead and floor on the engine cover and then making it a draw that you access with the stairs in the normal position. Or a hatch for access in the front. But then you have to store things that can deal with tilting.

Still thinking about it. It just seems like wasted space.

What do you store in this space? My tackle box doesn't mind it when I open the engine cover.
Usually nothing. I installed a carbon monoxide detector on the backwall. It does collect a lot of stuff that usually has to be moved before we leave the dock.

I was avoiding work this morning and surfing photos of C310s on Yatchwold.com. I came accross the photo below and thought I would post it.

I had thought about putting a battery here but didn't because I thought the heat would not be good for the battery. Any thoughts?

We have a rule sort of, if you have something and do not know where it

goes .......put it under the stairs.

Looks like some one else has done this .........battery looks OK, like it belongs there just like on autos.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean it should be done. This owner took the time to build a nice wooden box for it, but there is no battery box, no fuses. I am also not sure if I would compare this to a car. Cars have more ventilation and don't get as hot normally.

The first question to answer is how hot does it get under the engine cover. If its nearing or exceeding 100F, its not a good place at all for a battery.
