rudder. Two seasons ago the lower gudgeon on my rudder broke and as I wrestled with it, I discovered that it had positive flotation. I was able to replace the gudgeons (did 'em both, upper and lower) and have had no problems since. How does the additional weight at the stern affect the trim on your 25? Does the mahogany provide the same amount of positive flotation? Tom

Helm Was Not Affected That Much

Tom, the wooden rudder is neutrally bouyant. The original foam cored rudder was positively bouyant. I have maintained a fairly neutral helm, maybe leaning to slightly more weather when I am over-canvassed, but I consider that a good thing. The rudder weighs about 45 lbs, which is heavier than the original, but for some with leaking rudders may weigh about the same. Adding the third gudgeon has increased strength and stability. Don
