Yes we have the center leaf in our table. Actually never take it out as we like the table at the size it is.

You should be able to undo the clips on the under side of the table (there are 4) to allow the table to be opened. Try lube on the gear track but even then we find that a person on each side is necessary to get even force to close the table.
There is no smaller section. It should close completely

Hy pumpkinpie and quadrille, I have a 2005 Hunter 38 hull 106 and have a plain solid one piece table. Could one of you post a picture of your table for comparaison with mine? Thanks!

Here is picture. I’ve partially opened table so you can see the leaf.
There is a storage area just in front of the compression post in the wall between the main cabin and forward cabin. It’s built to hold the leaf. And boat came with a storage bag to hold the leaf
