With all things being equal which of the following designers would you rather have a 46-47 foot sailboat designed by German Frers or Sparkman & Stephens and why Thanks Dennis

But there are others that I would favor over German Frers.

Not too sure if anyone other than an equally experienced naval architect design team would be capable of making a valid comparison or, for that matter, making any meaningful distinction between them. Is there a reason you ask Dennis other than the stated one?

My overall choice would be the late Lyle Hess. He was decades ahead of his time on hull designs and layout. I think that presently the French naval architect Michael Bigoin has some of the most leading edge designs for cruising sailboats.

Maine Sail --- Which Perry design is this?

You obviously have good taste in boats. Looks remotely close to the Perry designed Ty52 but not with those larger angular saloon ports amidships. The Ty52 is my all time favorite Perry design. With that shear, not a doubt its a Perry design; nobody comes close to the graceful shear that Perry does. Thanks.

neither.....

while S&S baots are beautiful and G. Frers DID draw up some fast boats, If I were looking at a 40-50 ft. custom boat, I would have to look at either Jason Ker or Reichel/Pugh designs........... I guess the reasons are both design teams are now drawing up beautifully fast, well designed racer/cruisers that are tough enough for anywhere on the planet yet fast enough to kick everyones ass once you're whereever you're going. German Frers designs have become much more dated (although they have done some amazing things for Wally Yachts......) and S&S (obviously a new S$S boat, not an Olin Stevens race boat from another era) to me equates to having a Martini on deck while saying "Lovy, would you mind asking Jeeves to get the car ready" and that's just not me.
