Cutting portlight spigot

I have bought new Gray series portlights to replace the 40+ year old ports on my Tartan. I found that the spigot on the new ports are considerably longer than the installed ones. Can these be trimmed down? What's the best way to do it.

We've been using Seaworthy Goods eyebrows on all our opening ports for years and haven't had to close the portholes, except in the heaviest of rains, for years. Perhaps with those the spigots on the ports wouldn't be a problem.
