wire brush in a drill .. don't touch the oil sealing surface on the back side .. or take it to a shop for a light grit blast with the sealing surface and the bore taped so they can't be damaged. A good primer and paint afterwards.
The pulley is off the crankshaft so no worries about the oil seal. Now why didn't it occur to me to use a wire-brush. Probably got my head too deep in the works. Will coat with primer (red oxide paint?) and spray with Metallic Ash Grey (Yanmar colour). Thanks Claude.
YA welcome. I thought there was a sealing hub surface on the engine side that the lip seal rides on..(like on the 3HM series).. I see now that the seal rides directly on the crank..My mistake.. Good luck, Ken
