Trevor, I recently purchased a Nissan 9.8hp 4-stroke for my new-to-me 1982 Mac 25. The OB has an alternator and electric start. My problem is that the leads for the OB aren't long enough to reach the battery locker. I would like to incorporate a quick disconnect at the transom as I keep the boat in my driveway and store the OB in the storage shed. The wire gauge of the leads is AWG 6. What would be a sensible solution for a quick disconnect at the transom?

Trolling Motor Connectors

It seems to be the simplest way to provide a quick disconnect for your outboard engine wiring would be with male and female connectors that are used on trolling motors. I've never done this with an outboard engine, but have had several trolling motors over the years. The wiring connectors provided with Minn Kota trolling motors appear to be the best design to me. The only problem with this type of hook up is corrosion that occurs over time if the connectors aren't maintained properly.

Trolling Connectors

Hi Rusty - Lamar beat me to it. Pick up some quick connects that are available for electric trolling motors and you will be go to go! Best, Trevor
