I have an 89 C30. The original clam cleat, which controls the mainsheet, needs to be replaced. I am contemplating replacing it with a Harken cam cleat, for better holding power. However, I am wondering how well this would hold, as it is impossible to see how securely it would be anchored under the cabin liner. I would feel better about this if a backing plate could be installed, but the cabin liner makes this impossible. Has anyone made this change? All insight appreciated. Thanks, Chip s/v No Ma'am

Install a sheetstopper

The clam cleat creates a poor angle to the winch. Use a sheetstopper and leave it open when sailing. The liner is NOT a problem, just through bolt it with larger fender washers or a small ss backing plate. The core is wood. Stu

Good idea

Thanks Stu, The clam cleat does leave a poor angle to the winch. I will give this a try. Didn't realize the core was wood. Thanks for the reply. Chip
