36 Cabin soles

I have a '93 and I just removed my soles this past weekend and plan to replace them. My floors are 3/8" thick except for the bilge access panel that is about 3/4" thick. I have found a source of 3/8", 4' x 8' and 4' x 10' sheets of already laminated cabin soles, but they still need to be finished. Here is what I have learned. 1. Use your old floors as a template. Line up the holly stringers, clamp the old to the new. trace the outline, place blue painters tape of that mark, then re-trace again. Also, mark your screw holes. 2. Using a fine bladed hand jig-saw, slowly cut your way around the ourside of your mark. then sand the edges down to the mark. 3. Drill the screw holes and counter sink. You should use a #8 or #10 screw. 4. Flip the section over and you'll need a router to put a angel edge on the bottom. 5. Seal both sides and the edges with two coats of Cabin Sole sealer 6. Finish with two coates of Cabin Sole. I found this product at the Annapolis Sail Boat show. You can apply two coates in one weekend and the finish looks and feels like 10 coates of varnish. It and the sealer run about $25 per quart. You can find them in Bob Bitchens Lats & Atts magazine. I found two sources for the floors.
