I am interested in buying a 1985 catalina 22 but need to be able to stand up occasionally to stretch. What is the approximate height under the boom, while standing ion the cockpit?

Boom

It is low enough to bang your head if you are tall at all, but so what? When you are sailing it is never over the center of the cockpit except momentarily when it swings across the cockpit during a tack or jibe. At that point you need to pay attention, the rest of the time it is out of the way. When not sailing, the boom is slightly off center. It is easy to stand next to the boom. It just isn't a problem whether sailing or not, unless you don't pay any attention at all.

Boom Headroom

Jerry, I have a 1984 Catalina 22. In port, I use the topping lift to raise the boom a few inches above my head (I'm 6'1"). This allows me to move freely about the cockpit without cracking my skull. When sailing, I'm usually seated, or crouched a little for balance anyway, so headroom isn't an issue. As the previous responder mentioned, when sailing the boom is rarely over your head anyway.

topping lift

Just a note to say that if you don't have a topping lift you can use a halyard to do the same thing while in port or at anchor. Pete
