I'm looking for a marina for winter storage and some service, like removing bottom paint, blister repair, and bottom painting. Has anyone hear good/bad things about Casa Rio Marina on the Rhode River in Maryland? Thanks in advance. Ozana HAlik

I've got a guy I work with that keeps his trailerable boat there. Will catch up to him and ask. Jim S/V Java

Looks OK

I bought a boat that was there and splashed her for the test run in March of this year. They let me leave her at the dock a few days until I could get her home. They all seemed pretty nice there. The only issue is low water in the creek on the way in. I draw 5-1/2 feet, and had to wait until high tide to get out. Good Luck! Brian S/V Li Wei Beneteau OC381

was there for 4 years

I had a small trailerable boat there for 4 years and they were good for what you pay. I recently moved to Herrington North when I got a larger boat (Cal 28). I never had any work done there nor knew anyone who did but it's a great yard for doing work yourself. The water level can be low but I've never heard of anyone having a problem except at low tide and a Noreaster blowing the water out of the creek. There is a small shop for emergency supplies but no West Marine! Very layed back nice people who always helped me launch with their truck when I didn't have a way of launching with my small convertible. Good place to haul for the winter.

Here is my answer from friend but not much help

Jim, I did not spend any time there this year so my assumption is that nothing is different. They have been there a long time with basically the same people. The operational control was transferred to the current guy several years ago, I suspect a family business. I have never needed any work from them and know of no problems encountered by others. It is considered a self service marina so I don’t know how much work the yard personnel take on. Jim S/V Java

Casa Rio

I'm very familiar with Casa Rio. Very nice place in terms of people. A good place to get work done. Would I store a boat there over the winter? Nope. This very small marina has limited space on land and all the boats are very tightly jam parked -- and you must return to the water in reverse order of the haul-out schedule. That may, or may not, be convenient. It could be costly. But my primary concern is how boats are blocked there. I have often seen 28 foot and longer boats blocked with only four jackstands, when IMHO at least six were needed. Finally, getting power and water while on land may be a function of how long your power cords or hoses are as power/water stands are not plentiful. You are not that far from Herrington Harbour North, which has a far better system for winter storage at only a little more cost. It is also a DIY yard or you can have pro's do it if you choose. Year round power/water stands about every 50 feet. And, they know how to block a boat properly....

Try Holiday Point Marina

You might try Holiday Point Marina, located on Selby Bay just off the South River. It is about 4 miles by land from Casa Rio and the other side of the peninsula by water. I've had a boat there for 6 years. They take good care of boats, but also pretty much follow the last out, first in practice.

I agree with Warren and Al

We have our boat at Holiday Point Marina ,great place and professional staff. We had some repairs done (engine, rudder ) and were 100% satisfied. . The only minus - you cannot do any work under the toe rail ( waxing etc...) Phillip
