At NYC, if you have a dingy you might want

to consider the 79th Street Boat Basin. They o have Moorings (no launch service)but I believe the fee is also only about $35/day. It's located just off the West Side Highway at 79th Street and extremely convienient - as in easily walking distance - to all buses and subways. Also food shopping is only a few blocks away. The attached link gives you full information but I wouldn't rely on slip availability.

Liberty Landing

I have stayed many times at Liberty Landing Marina. The views of Manhatten and the Statue of Liberty are spectacular! Especially at night. The marina is located in a state park-beautiful for picnicking, biking, jogging and BBQ. There is also 5 minute ferry service over to NYC, the statue and Ellis Island. Two restaurants at the marina, both with great views. The marina is a little pricey but worth it for what you get. The marina has an excellant wave attenuator which means you don't get beat to death from all the commercial and pleasure boat traffic. Don't believe the ads for the other marinas about being calm. I have seen boats in other mainas on the river break their dock lines and flatten their fenders from the pounding from the wakes of some of the fast ferries and LARGE pleasure boats!

NYC Marinas

For a transient, Liberty Landing Marina is probably the best bet on the Hudson River, in the NYC area. For those of us who keep our boats there, it is a different story. Rates keep going up and services keep going down. It is the only marina in New York Harbor, that does not suffer from the wakes of the ferries, which are beating the marinas on the Hudson to death. LLM is located up the old Morris Canal and is very protected. And, as Jack says, the view is awesome. Current transient daily rate is $3.00/ft between May 15 & Oct 15. Weekly is $15.00/ft. A $5.00 boat trip and you are in downtown Manhatten in about 7 minutes (World Financial Center). For $1.00 the boat will take you across the canal, where you can walk to a number of excellent restaurants. Keep in mind, when you leave Liberty State Park, you will find yourself in beautiful downtown Jersey City. When walking on the other side of the canal, you will find yourself in a very upscale neighborhood. However, if you decide to walk around instead of taking the $1.00 boat ride, you will find yourself in the pits. The marina harbor is also afflicted with the famous Jersey City brown & white trout after a heavy rain. But, the view is really awesome. Rich L. s/v Jandaru II H410
