bavaria 39 swansea
I am fairly new to sailing and also a new owner of a 39' bavaria. the question I have is the boat has two holding tanks for the heads, and an electric pump switch on the main control panel to empty them, however, the pump does not seem to work and i think the tanks are just slowly emptying under gravity, what I cannot figure out is where are the actual pumps for these tanks located, any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Ken,

Holding tanks should not empty under gravity.

Follow the hoses and you will come to the overboard disharge pump and the seacock which should be closed.

Be sure you are familiar with holding tank discharge regulations in your area
to be sure you have our marine sanitation discharge systems set up correctly.

You should also have a hose going to the deck for pumpout as well.

good luck,

Jules

One of the best things you can do is to spend a day NOT sailing.

Spend that day crawling all over your boat, and find things.

You'll be safer for it.

Ken,
I live in Somerset. If your boat is close by I could come and crawl around and help you find your, pumps, tanks thruhulls.

this is great advice. you should tear the boat apart and look at every through hull, hose, coupling etc. Label each if not already done. figuring out what each does enough to label is an invaluable exercise
