At my local lake I have found a forlorn and neglected 1969 Cal 25. The deck is soft, appears to be discolored, perhaps stained, comes with three sails and a Merc 10 with sailmaster prop. Inside of the boat is depressing, but it has wheel steering. I like the Cal 20, so this design appeals to me. The owner says that due to health, his family hasn't used the boat for five years. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated. I am a novice with reasonable woodworking skills. he price seems to be right. Thanks.

Cal cabin top repairs

David, the Cal 25 was a great boat and is still viable as a family pleasure cruiser. I bought a Cal 24(T4) and have been doing a restoration on same. Re-doing the cabin top was a bit of a challenge and the main reason for dry docking and beginning the resto. We got carried away and split the upper and lower molds and lifted off the cabin top with an all-terrain forklift. This was very labor intensive though not terribly cerebral. If you would like I can give details . Respond directly to pelsfam@ev1.net For what it is worth, I would sail it until the cabin top drives you nuts and then start the resto if you so choose. We enjoyed ours for a few years and then dry docked it. Truthfully the boat suffered more in dry dock than in the water. John Pels
