butyl tape question

Can you use butyl tape to rebed ports.I have a recently purchased beneteau 235 that needs it leaking main ports approx 24"x6" rebeded.It has the original black caulk currently.

I'm not Mainsail and dont play him on TV, but...

If the windows have mechanical fasteners; screws, nuts, bolts to hold them in place then butyl is an excellent choice as a sealant.
But some windows are "glued" in place with adhesive caulk with no help from fasteners. In those cases, butyl isnt recommended. Butyl is a sealant, not an adhesive. If you need adhesive, Dow 795 is usually the recommended caulk for "gluing" your window to the frame.
