hi all-
i recently got my vega a few months ago and have begun a total
restoration. all the wood is out and in the process of removing the
bulkheads i noticed that there was quite a space between the edge and
the side of the hull(.5"). just curious if you all think scribing new
ones for a snugger fit would be better than cutting out copies of the
old ones. thanks for any input-

Hello Chris,
You will find the main bulkhead is filled along the bottom with
polyester fill. Also the next forward bulkhead has fill as well. The
loads are taken to the hull. All the other bulkheads are held in place
with only the 5 mm bolts. My feeling is to make them exactly as
before. Even use the same drill holes. This helps when lining up the
bulkheads. Make sure that you do not forget any cleats. We prefinished
all the plywood. Look in the link setion "rebuilding Tarka the Otter"

Just admiring your shed on your web site. I have a similar shed that
I covered in plastic. What material did you use for your cover? It
looks very durable.

Hello Peter
I used a heavy weight "fabrene" polyethelen style material. It is
what is used in "tempos". Tempos are structures used in Quebec to
cover driveways to keep the snow off. If you should recover do not
use a clear material. It is counterintuitive but the darker the
colour the cooler it will be. It was a green house. I had to put on a
darker fly to get the temperature down.

As an aside, I sold my abris two weeks ago for the cost of materials.

Hi guys,

I may have misunderstood these posts but the loads from the bulkheads
should be carried via the tabbing and not directly to the hull - if
the edge os pressing on the hull this will create a hard spot.

If you wish to strengthen the hull it would be better to *double up"
on the tabbing.
