I just purchased a 1984 O'Day 25 in March. The boat did not have a boom vang. A neighbor at my marina had a vang from his S2 7.3. My question is at what angle should the boom vang be set up. There is no hardware on the boom, but their is a vang eye on the mast. EJ Tews Cedar Hill, texas

45 degrees

EJ - For the most effective vang, it ought to pull the boom down without trying to center it relative to the beam. It should run at about 45 degrees. Put the boom on the mast, and hold it with the topping lift. Then figure out where 45 degrees from the bail on the mast lands on the boom. I would set up your vang with a good snap shackle on the mast end, that way you can use it as a preventer. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
