I am wanting to verify the correct location for stern boat stands for an O'Day 272.? I have seen
the sling recommendation on the side view in the 272 manual, but my hull is depressed on the starboard side at the aft stand location.....it pop's back but the interior structure must be forward of
the sling location at that point of the hull....any thoughts? Thanks for your ideas, Patrick

I put them under the bulkheads, the bow, and in the stern. I put the stands outboard, so they support the curve from bottom to side of the hull, not the flat bottom. Don't forget safety chains.

Thanks,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, this is the third year for this boat to be on this particulari. cradle and the cradle needs to be re-built to relocate
the starboard aft bunk about 1-2 ft. further forward....It is causing the hull to deflect because there is no sub-structure aft of the
galley on the 272...took her out yesterday in what had to be on of Wichita's most beautiful fall days....but today is beautiful as well. Pat

Right. Aft of the galley is open space, no bulkheads. You can place stands in this area if you put them as outboard as possible... Right on the curve of the hull, so you don't indent the bottom.

Hi Andrew! The side view of the 272 shows the stand/sling/stand going aft of the galley bulkhead...and your right...there is absolutely nothing in the lazarette to provide any strength aft of that bulkhead....I think on the starboard side I'll have tge stand relocated forward a foot or so so the strength (?) of the galley and awthartship stringer that is visible as part of the engine compartment will help. Strange that C.Raymond Hunt's sketch provides incorrect advice...(note word sling on side view drawing)....is not a day to sail here today.....44 mph southwest wind gusts at the moment....blizzard in NW Kansas with 60 mph Northwest winds...will move thru Wichita after lunch as low pressure goes by to our north..Have a great day Andrew, Patrick.....

I agree. There is nothing aft of the galley bulkhead to support the hull from below. You can use stands on the backbone of the boat and on the edge of the hull where it curves to the gunwales.

Getting ready to start my hull liner, swinging passageway doors, LED lighting, wiring, mast wiring, and wheel steering projects! Whew! Thanks for the metrics on the pedestal. I will post some pictures of the upgrades.

Thanks,

Andrew
