O yeah, I forgot to add, my thru-hull for my bilge pump is above the waterline on the port side. I have not put a float switch in mine since mine sits on a trailer but the two last weekend excursions to Swansboro for "temp-work" (haven't seen much in pay yet) and sleeping on board has led me to the belief that I do want a float switch while sleeping.

Lord, it's raining, so I seem to be saying something about ALL these recent posts.
My general practice is, is to use a float switch to activate a high water bilge alarm, and to manually switch on the pump. I typically can't hear a small electric pump turning on, so on a boat that is usually dry, it could be pumping water out, stemming from a problem I don't even know about.
Now, sitting at a slip, with the boat unattended, it would do nothing but buss like hell, annoying the neighbors as the boat went under, but another switch to put it on automatic is the norm.
That way, if the cable hose pops off, it can buzz, AND pump while the boat sinks a little slower.
It would really take a wheelbarrow load of pumps to offset that water ingress..

Since the boat will be out of the water for at least 2 more weeks, I'm thinking about going ahead and installing the outlet above the water line on the port side.

CaptGregg & slowtype, whereabouts did you end up putting your outlet on the port side?
